In the last few years it has become painfully obvious that there are a lot of people in need of physical and spiritual care. The Central Florida region has experienced more than 10% unemployment. People are hurting for food, clothing and shelter. Often times situations develop that are beyond our control. Sometimes it is very difficult for responsible and proud people to ask for help (Even though all of us need help from time to time). This ministry seeks to be alert to the needs that continue to exist within the church and within our community. It is our goal to be proactive and respond positively where we can. We keep a pantry at the building stocked and ready to go. When possible, we assist with clothing and other essential needs.

Unfortunately, there may be some things that are beyond the scope of what we can do. Sometimes funds are limited. But, if it is within the parameters for us to help, we will definitely try to do so. Helping good people to get back on their feet is an honor and a privilege – moreover it honors God! This ministry is in the capable, compassionate and fair hands of our shepherds. Communication is defined as, “The exchange of information.”  Information is key to keeping the church moving, growing and healthy.  This ministry is under the skillful guidance of John Cullum.  It is the aim of this ministry to provide timely and accurate information to the church family and to the community about the church family – especially the saving message of Jesus.  Some of the areas within the Communication Ministry are:

  1. The recording and distribution of sermons and classes via CDs, DVDs and the Internet.
  2. Responsible for weekly bulletins, newsletter and all forms of marketing and advertisement, whether printed or online.
  3. Podcasts and webcasts.
  4. Tracts and other printed material.
  5. Maintaining audio and visual equipment.
  6. The flow of information through bulletins and announcements.
  7. Coordination with the elders, evangelist and office to ensure the most up-to-date information is provided to the Web Manager.

These are just a few of the many areas that are addressed by our communication team.  It is our desire to make certain that needed information is shared as quickly and as efficiently as possible.  If you would like more information about this ministry contact Walt Person at This email address is being protected from spambots. educationThe Bible says that church leaders are “… for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ— from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love (Ephesians 4:12-16).

Essentially, church leaders have the responsibility of assisting people in their growth to be like Jesus. Matt Steen is our deacon over our education ministry.

He serves in all areas of education.  Matt does an excellent job of meeting the needs of the Sanford family, working with many dedicated volunteers and teachers . He assembles teachers, establishes the curriculum, develops resources for both teachers and students, and prayerfully implements the education program. We believe that through these efforts and many more, precious souls are brought into a deeper relationship with God and with one another. When you choose to attend one of our Sunday or Wednesday classes, you will discover people that are just like you–people wanting to know more, people wanting to make it to heaven, people in need of God's love. We believe that you will find what you are looking for at the Sanford church of Christ. We strive to provide relevant and timely study matters.  So, come and join us. You will be blessed. There are a huge number of Spanish-speaking people in the Sanford area – souls from the Caribbean Islands, Central and South America, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Spain, native Floridians and many more. We at Sanford church of Christ desire to reach all people, especially those who feel more comfortable communicating in the Spanish language. Julio Garcia has an infectious personality and a love for souls. He works diligently to strengthen the church while at the same time preparing the church to look outward, seeking to attract more people to Jesus and the family of God. If you are looking for a place to know God through the Spanish language, then give us a try. We invite you to learn more by emailing Julio at This email address is being protected from spambots. evangelism fishEvangelism is a word that often frightens members of the Lord’s church. It’s scary because we do not know what the reaction of our friends and neighbors might be if “Religion” is brought up. Another reason that it might be a tad bit intimidating is that we might be unsure about how to address certain subjects or answer specific questions.

This is where brother Walt Person and his team enter the picture.

Our local evangelism and outreach program is an effort to help members accomplish the God-given mandate of “Seeking and saving” the lost – precious people – valuable souls (See Luke 19:10 and John 20:21). Walt and his team encourage tract distribution, follow-up with local visitors to our services, Bible Correspondence Courses and home Bible studies. He plans seminars and workshops designed to train Christians on how to approach and teach their non-Christian friends. If you would like to speak with Walt about this ministry or how to reach out to the lost around you, then email him at This email address is being protected from spambots. The Bible instructs Christians: “On the first day of the week let each one of you lay something aside, storing up as he may prosper, that there be no collections when I come” (1 Corinthians 16:2). There is no way that ministry can be done in the world without money. Operational expenses for a large group are sizeable. Responding to the needs of the church family, the community and the world require funds. Making certain that the word of God is presented publicly and privately, at home and abroad is expensive. So, God, through the inspired writers, told us to “Give” on the first day of the week so that the needs of the kingdom could be addressed. Each person in the family of God is supposed to examine their own heart and give as they have been prospered.

Tim O'Keefe is the leader of our Finance Ministry.

God intends for Christians to be proper stewards or managers of money both privately and as a church. Tim and the elders make sure that funds given for the Lord’s work at Sanfordare cared for in a Godly manner. L2LThis is a program that has been successful among churches of Christ for a long time.  It is a convention that is held every year in the springtime.  Young people from all over Florida assemble to display the skills that they have honed throughout the year with the help of adult sponsors.  Puppets, public speaking and song leading are just a few of the many categories in which children can participate.  The skills our young ones learn and the confidence that they gain, usually cements a lifetime of faithfulness.  Moreover, the friendships that both participants and sponsors make reinforce their motivation and desire to remain faithful to our Father.

Lads to Leaders & Leaderettes is designed to foster students’ abilities in becoming effective leaders within the church. The importance of this type of training is invaluable to our youth today. It not only prepares them for leadership roles in the church, but it carries over into their family life, school practices, and later careers. The students are never asked to do any task that they are not properly prepared to accomplish. Lads to Leaders and Leaderettes is truly a life changing experience.

The Bible says that we are to “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned” (Mark 16:15-16). The Sanford church of Christ tries to take the great commission of Jesus very seriously. We realize that our own neighborhoods are mission fields. Everyone, everywhere is in need of the Savior. While we take seriously our local evangelism efforts, we also have a worldwide view. David Galloway serves as our servant leader in charge of foreign missions.

He does a superb job of managing our mission efforts. Some of our mission efforts include:

    • India (Ron and Karen Clayton)
    • Cup of Cold Water Ministries, Panama (David and Lisa Carter).  Latest report here.
    • Latin America Missions, Costa Rica (Spencer Broome)
    • Mt. Dora Childrens Home, Mt. Dora, FL
    • Christian Family Services, Gainesville, FL
    • East Orange Church of Christ, Chuluota, FL
    • Central Florida Bible Camp, Eustis, FL

Our brother David keeps the congregation informed about what is going on in the field and how we can participate in spreading the “Good News” about Jesus. David and his team spend many hours researching the best ways available to expand the borders of God's kingdom!

Technology is defined as, “the making, modification, usage, and knowledge of tools, machines, techniques, crafts, systems, methods of organization, in order to solve a problem, improve a preexisting solution to a problem, achieve a goal, handle an applied input/output relation or perform a specific function."

As an extension of the communication ministry, maximizing the availability and usability of our technology to ensure available information is received and utilized to keep the church moving, growing and healthy.  This ministry is under the skillful guidance of Bill Schmitt.

It is the aim of this ministry to provide and maintain equipment to promote the timely and accurate sharing of information to the church family and to the community about the church family – especially the saving message of Jesus. It is our desire to make certain that needed information is shared as quickly and as efficiently as possible through the many technology mediums available. Worship is at the core of what we do and what are about when we meet collectively as a church family.  Worship is when God’s people come together to jointly say to Him, “Thank you for sending Jesus to save us.”  Christians arrive prepared to exalt Him [Father, Son and Holy Spirit] for who He is, what He has done, what He has promised to do and for what He continues to do.  Worship is not about us.  It is about God!  A by-product of genuine worship, though, is the edification and encouragement we receive from our Father and from one another.  Worship is a wonderful, glorious and needed privilege. If you attend our worship services we are confident that you will come away energized, recharged and focused upon Jesus.  Bill Schmitt leads this amazing ministry.

He is charged by our elders to make certain that public worship is done as described in the Bible.  He organizes those who serve the Lord’s Supper, lead prayers, lead singing and teach for each worship assembly.  They assemble ushers, greeters and other workers to ensure quality biblical worship.  It is the goal of this ministry to create an environment for worship that aids worshippers in their approach to the Father.  One special area that he administers is that of our greeters.  Greeters are members that volunteer to welcome people to our assemblies as they enter the door.  The greeters answer questions, provide bulletins, offer direction to classes and rooms and present visitors with guest packets.  Their job is to help people to feel welcome and to prepare for worship.

If you would like information about our worship or worship services, or our greeters ministry then contact Bill Schmitt at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Activities include weekly group Bible studies, monthly devotionals, mission trips, summer camps, retreats, local service projects, foreign mission work, and youth rallies. Various fun activities are also included to offer opportunities for teens to invite their friends include monthly Friday Movie Night, lock-ins, Hang-Out times, and group outings to sporting and entertainment events in the Central Florida area.
